Bedding Layers

Bedding layers, or the materials you use to make your bed, are crucial for both aesthetics and comfort. They also help define your style and theme.

Layering the right bedding is essential for a luxurious sleep experience and can give your bedroom that hotel-like appeal. It’s a great way to add texture, pattern + color without making the room feel too busy or overwhelming.

To start, you’ll need a top sheet (also called a flat sheet) and a duvet or quilt. You can buy them in a variety of sizes and fabrics, including embroidered or printed patterns.

A top sheet should be made of a breathable material that doesn’t wrinkle, like percale, so you can enjoy its crispness and coolness during warmer months. It’s also hygienic, which is especially important for those with sensitive skin.

Your duvet or quilt will be a plush, fluffy covering that rests on top of your top sheet. It’s available in a wide range of colors and patterns, and is filled with down or synthetic fibers to keep you cozy.

When you’re shopping for your duvet, consider the size of your mattress and the height it’s sitting on to get a proper fit. A duvet or quilt is also a good idea to use as a cover for your mattress pad, which will add even more comfort and help extend the life of your mattress.

Lastly, you’ll need a few pillows. Try three on single beds, but up to six on larger ones for a chic, relaxed feel. Play with textured pillows, like furry Mongolian lamb or luxe velvet, to add depth and interest.
