Bedding Yardage Chart

Figure the correct yardage for any custom sewing project involving fabric – Upholstery, Draperies, Pillows/Cushions and Bedding. Our complimentary illustrated charts make it easy to calculate the amount of fabric you’ll need for bedding sizes from twin through king. Also included are estimates for bedskirts, shams and duvet or comforter covers as well as table lines from napkins to round tablecloths.

To estimate yardage for a drapery panel, you’ll need the finished length plus allowances for hems and heading size (our workroom adds 16″). For pattern fabrics with large repeats more yardage may be required.

Considering the wide range of fabric requirements, the most important thing to remember when calculating yardage is “always go bigger!”

When making a pillow or chair cushion that has a ruffle on it, be sure you’re figuring the fullness you want. To do this you should take the total pillow/chair bottom size and divide by the fabric width – then round up to the next whole number to determine how many widths of fabric are needed.

For a bed skirt, the deck is the piece of fabric that goes between the box spring and the mattress. It’s a rectangular piece of fabric that measures the top of the box spring on two sides and the base of the footboard on the other side. This size is 76-by-60 inches and requires a full-sized flat sheet for a queen-sized bed.

The yardage figures shown above are based on solid fabric that is 54″ wide and does not require matching. With patterned and stripe fabrics additional yardage may be required to allow for matching.
