Another choice for a guinea pig’s bedding is aspen shavings. Aspen is a natural plant and is very absorbent. This bedding type is safe for pets, though it may not be good for the environment.
Pine shavings are also a good choice, but it is a little bit of a risk. Some pine bedding products are not heated, which can be harmful for your piggies. Also, the acid in the wood can permeate the trachea of the guinea pig, causing problems.
Newspaper is another type of bedding, but it is not good for your guinea pig. In addition, the ink can cause serious illness.
Another good option is a soft blanket. You can create your own guinea pig bedding by using an old towel or fleece blanket. It is easy to use, and it’s affordable.
If you’re concerned about the environment, you may want to look into a fleece cage liner. These liners are made of ultra-absorbent fabric and they’re easy to clean.
A fleece blanket is also an option, but it has a lot of potential problems. You have to regularly wash it to remove odor.
